A row has erupted on Twitter (where else) between everyone’s favourite skier, the openly gay Olympian, Gus Kenworthy.

Breck Pride Week in Breckenridge, Colorado, USA runs from the 3rd to 7th April. The resort shared a photo on Instagram of skiers carrying a giant rainbow flag. And so the totally basic comments began…

“Is there a week to celebrate being straight?” Facepalm.

Gus shared some of the most stupid comments on his Twitter feed, suggesting that if anyone was offended by seeing a rainbow flag on their holidays, they should stay at home. He wrote:

“Always saddened by the homophobia on Pride posts. If seeing a rainbow flag while you’re on vacation upsets you then please do the world a favour and stay the fuck at home.”

“Thank you to the many ski resorts that designate a week to making more people feel welcomed, included & safe!”

Gus Kenworthy has been an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights since coming out in an interview with American sports TV channel ESPN. He said: “I wanted to do it in my words and once and for all – and hopefully help kids that are in the same position I was.”

The kiss with his then boyfriend Matthew Wilkas at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea is seen as one of the most significant moments for LGBTQ+ athletes.
